In November 1988, the school was renamed the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law in honor of Campbell University's third president.

Dr. Wiggins made the following comment at the dinner announcing the name change: "Millie and I know all too well that when you see a turtle on top of a fence post, you can rest assured it didn't get there by itself. And if we're on top of the fence post tonight, it's because many of you put us up there."
